Bushidokan Goju-Ryu Karatedo unit plans for fall 2016
Unit 1 - Introduce new students to the traditional routines of the martial arts.This is a very important unit because of the vast amount of information required to study the martial arts in the traditional way. An example of this would be how to formally begin and end class.
Unit 2 - Introduce new students to the seven principles of Bushido. The seven principles are designed to create a student who is a valued asset to our society. The seven principles are justice, courage, benevolence, politeness, truthfulness, honor, and loyalty.
Unit 3 - Introduce new students to the 12 stances of Goju-Ryu Karatedo. These stances have numerous benefits, such as better posture, better focus, better awareness, stress reduction, and many more.
Unit 4 - Introduce new students to the basic physical techniques Goju-Ryu Karatedo. The students will learn how to move safely with control using various martial arts techniques.
Unit 5 - Introduce students to hand drill number 1. Hand drill number 1 is a five movement sequence that introduces the concept of combining basic movement.
Unit 6 -Introduce students to Hookiyu kata number 1. A kata is much like a gymnastics routine. It takes the basics and combines them into a sequence that highly benefits the student.
Unit 7 - Introduce students to Kiso Kumite Shodan. Kiso Kumite is a very basic self-defense sequence done with a partner. This drill is highly controlled and heavily emphasizes safety.
Unit 8 - Introduce students to Bunkai. When studying Bunkai two students take a kata that was learned earlier and break it down studying timing and distancing to better understand the techniques.
Unit 9 - The students will combine everything they have learned to date in preparation for their first formal test/demonstration.
Unit 10 - The students will perform their first formal test/demonstration. This will occur sometime in December in the late afternoon. This test/demonstration will be open for the student's family to come and watch.
